Celia Grace 2015 Line Shoot, Eco-Friendly Dresses

Welcome to a New Year!  Anything can happen 🙂

As an appropriate first post of this Illustrious New Year, let us take a look at some of the flowers we created for this years’ line of Eco-friendly, Fair-Trade dresses from Celia Grace…

Marcie from Celia Grace contacted us after attending a friends’ wedding at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills in Middletown, Ct where we had done the flowers. She loved them so much, she asked us to provide some elements for their 2015 line of Wedding Dresses- and we jumped at the chance!

She explained that all of their dresses are handmade, using techniques that have been handed down for generations.  These dresses are created in Cambodia using heirloom hand woven silks, exquisite beading and details- did I mention the hand-tatted lace? They look and feel great, I couldn’t get over the ones I saw at the second line shoot up close.

Honestly, it had never occurred to me to consider the Fair-Trade concept applied to wedding gowns, my first reaction was “What?” but as she explained to me the value of knowing where the materials come from and who is doing the work for fair wages, it all made sense!

Check out their website to see the upcoming Trunk Shows, and try on a fair-trade gown!

Handtied Bouquet with many textures, garden roses, cymbidium orchids, scabiosa pods and ranunculus to name a few

One fine September morning found us driving a few bouquets to Brooklyn for some City shots- I have to say, it was a perfect day, a perfect drive and I even found perfect parking! How rare is that!?!

We met one of Celia Graces designers, Alix Kivlin.  She had been our contact for this shoot and was terrific to work with- in a great mood, lively, beautiful and had also managed to secure the perfect parking for her mobile truck of photo shoot props and paraphernalia.

Jessica & Anthony’s Mystic Aquarium Wedding

We had so much fun designing this playful aquarium wedding for Jessica and Anthony – and probably just as much fun delivering it and having the opportunity to play with some of the marine animals. We just love a wedding with a theme and how can you go wrong with one like this? First off, meet Jessica and Anthony, looking gorgeous in the entryway, which we draped in yards and yards of ivory organza.

For bouquets, we incorporated seashells and starfish into this lovely cascade for Jessica:

Her Maids carried natural, round bouquets in deeper hues:

And her flower girl may be my favorite of all with her adorable crown!

And, because I can’t help it — just look how these glorious creatures help to create ambiance:

Now, on to centerpieces. We created three distinct designs for Jessica and Anthony – I’m not sure I can pick a favorite. What do you think?

And here’s my favorite part — a hanging screen we created for the dance floor using suspended bubble vases with petals and flowers, along with gold glittery ‘seaweed’ accented with ferns:

I hope you enjoyed looking at these images as much as we loved designing the flowers! Let us know what you think.

And big thanks to Jerome and Jen at Studio 1923 for these gorgeous images! For their blog post with more images from the wedding, click here!

Nicole & Travis Featured in Bliss Celebrations Magazine

Our second feature in Bliss Celebrations Magazine is the wedding of Nicole and Travis at the New Haven Lawn Club, one of the most beautiful venues in Çonnecticut. I love that the two weddings Bliss chose to feature were so wildly different. While Sophie and Mike‘s wedding was a contemporary fairy tale, Nicole and Mike’s was classic, elegant and traditional in style. Nicole was so lovely, we were honored to create the perfect bouquet of hydrangea, peony, anemone, lisianthus and dusty miller to complement her personality.

For her maids, we designed these bright bouquets of peony, garden roses, lisianthus and scabiosa pods to accent their navy gowns.

The Lawn Club’s classic Art Deco style was the inspiration for these spring centerpieces, which consisted of several styles of mercury glass vessels complemented with vintage glassware featuring delphinium, roses, cymbidium orchids, snapdragons, lisianthus, Queen Anne’s lace, callas and scabiosa pods in pale blues, peaches, oranges and pinks.

Sophie & Mike Featured in Bliss Celebrations Magazine

We are so happy to have two of our weddings featured in Bliss Celebrations Magazine! The first – a contemporary take on an enchanted forest theme – took place at the Ritz Carlton in Boston. Because we love a challenge, we were very excited when Sophie told us she wanted to transform the elegant Ritz Carlton into a fairytale forest. Before we show you the details, just look at how adorable these two are – and how wonderfully Moss and Isaac captured their love in this image.

Let’s start with these glorious bouquets, which really showcase Cat’s ability to weave grasses and create drama with just a few simple things. Using just lily grass, phaleonopsis, dendrobium and ingenuity, these beauties were born. Sophie was quoted as saying her European bouquets “stole the show.”

and this adorable flower girl carrying an orb of lily grass, green trick dianthus and dendrobium orchids

For the ceremony, we created a woodland chuppah of birch with hydrangea and David Austin garden roses. We kept the lines simple and elegant to complement the clean lines and geometric carpet, rather than compete with the style of the room. We lined Sophie’s aisle runner with softly scented rose petals in ivory.

The escort card table features a tower of hollowed birch with callas and green trick dianthus. Floating candles in clear glass and a statement arrangement of callas and willow, also in glass, are a nod to the contemporary feel of the gathering space.

For the dining tables, clusters of moss, succulents and spring flowers in birch logs accented a large glass vase of flowering cherry branches with teardrop crystal votives.

We really loved working with Sophie and Mike – and the people at the Ritz were really great – they gave us a nice big corner where we could bring the outside in and work late into the night making everything perfect.

Stay tuned for Nicole and Travis – our second feature in Bliss Celebrations, coming soon.

Steampunk Editorial Shoot

We are happy to announce that we provided flowers for a steampunk wedding shoot that was recently picked up by Rock and Roll Bride! You can see the full post here, but in the meantime, we wanted to show you some of the flowers in detail!

First, a keyring bouquet that Cat and Tony collaborated on — a real twist on the traditional cascade using found objects and featuring local hellebore, bronze cymbidium orchids and mokara orchids.

Next up, a porthole-inspired bouquet that Cat created using local osage orange branch, clematis buds, green trick dianthus and an uluhe fern shoot.

Here is another collaboration between Cat and Tony – our take on a more traditional bouquet, which features Amnesia roses, callas, succulents, scabiosa pods, local spirea, foxtail fern, ti leaves, string-of-pearls, aralia leaves, cymbidium orchids and various gears and gaskets.

A Turkish cooking pot becomes the base for this centerpiece, created by Cat, and featuring purple monkshood, sahara roses, spirea, parrot tulips, frittilaria, osage orange branches, cymbidium orchid blooms and a variety of gears.

We had a great time working on this shoot and enjoying the creative freedom provided by the exceptional team involved.
