Stacey & Alan’s Branford House Wedding

Here’s one of my favorite spring weddings of all time, photographed by one of my favorite people of all time, Katie Slater. I love this one for a couple of reasons – first, I loved meeting with Stacey and seeing her vision for the Branford House – a natural, free garden look, elevated with touches of formality. Second, it was a challenge. A calculated messy look is hard to pull off – but Cat figured it out. She came up with a way of designing these hand-tied bouquets that gave them flow and freedom, AND enough structure to make the placements of the flowers purposeful. Thus was born the ‘Upstairs/Downstairs Method,” patent pending.
There are going to be a lot of pictures of these bouquets. I can’t help it.
But first, meet Stacey and Alan:

So now the bouquets – we used jasmine vine, amaranthus and Australian fern to create a backdrop for coral peony, purple phlox, ebony hellebore (which we actually grew!), peach garden roses, cream ranunculus, silver brunia protea and white clematis for Stacey’s bouquet:

We scaled the look down a bit for Stacey’s bridesmaids – and we wrapped the bouquets in luxurious upholstery fringes in taupes and soft golds.

The guy’s boutonnieres were simple – hellebore with hypericum berries for the groom and silver brunia protea with an accent of allium flower for the groomsmen.

Inside The Branford House, we used classic gold urns for the centerpieces, each a bit unique in design, and draped the mantels in lush greenery and amaranthus. We then filled the room with candles to create a soft, romantic glow.
